1. Determine the scenario: What happens in this frame?
In this frame the advertising company wants to get the point across that smoking around kids and others is just as bad as one who smokes themselves. They intentionally make the kid stand out.
2. What is the setting? What are the conditions?
The setting / conditions of this ad is your eyes focus on how sad the kid is in the foreground, while mom is in background smoking it up and reading the intended message in middle ground.
3. Who are the people or groups?
I feel it can be to groups. First, it could be parents to stop smoking around their children. And or it can be a message to smokers to just simply stop smoking around others due to second hand smoke killing people.
4. What is their point of view around this specific experience?
Their point is second hand smoke kills.
5. What are their goals?
The goal is to use the child to impact smokers because most sympathize with a childs sadness.
6. What are their assumptions? What are their perceptions?
Their assumption is that by using the child the ad will make a stronger impact. Their perception is that smoking is already bad but parents don't need to smoke around our children. One, second hand smoke is so bad for their little lungs. Second, kids model behavior and they are clearly trying to stop second hand smoke.
7. Are there conflicts? Is there cooperation?
I do not feel their is conflict, I think all three elements in the Ad are cooperating together.
8. What are the outcomes?
I am not sure what the out come is but I am sure they want it to be that there advertisement makes a point and reach at least a percentage of America.
